NAB opposes FM booster geotargeting.

In a reply comments filing, the Association gives as its reason for opposing the Commission’s proposal for geotargeted programming “an overwhelming majority of NAB members agree that the proposal—which originated with a company called Geobroadcast Solutions—would pose significant risks to radio stations that far outweigh the speculative benefit proffered by GBS.” The NAB went on to point out that nearly all of the 57 comments filed in support of the proposal were submitted through GBS’s attorney without taking into account “the financial, competitive or technical risks of allowing geotargeting…” The filing further notes that the PAWS Program from FEMA has expressed doubts about the proposal because of its effects on the Emergency Broadcast System.
