The political rumor mill has the former FCC Chairman seeking the Washington, DC mayoral spot, although the current National Cable Telecommunications Association CEO denies it, saying, “Washington is an exceptional city, but contrary to published reports, I am not considering a run to be its mayor.” It is a bit of a stretch, since Powell doesn’t actually live in the district, and he’s a Republican—making an election victory in the District a long shot.
