ISP held responsible for music piracy.

Cox Communications has been fined $1 billion for allegedly allowing its broadband subscribers to download music illegally. The suit, brought by 53 music companies, claimed, “Rather than stop its subscribers’ unlawful activity, Cox prioritized its own profits over its legal obligations.” According to the action, Cox allegedly ignored infringement notices and allowed repeat offenders to continue to use its service, essentially turning a blind eye to the practice.
