Fine-worthy offenses

The FCC has slapped WSKQ, a Spanish-language station in New York, with a $16,000 fine for “willfully and repeatedly” violating the Commission’s regs by recording and playing back on the air a telephone conversation without telling the caller about it ahead of time. Meanwhile, WBAV in Gastonia, NC was nicked $10,000 for “failing to conduct a contest substantially as announced or advertised”—specifically, they messed with the deadline for a contest, changing it in mid-contest.
