Eastern Washington University will shut down its long-standing radio station, KEWU, by the end of the year after 73 years of broadcasting. The station was originally launched as a freeform student station in 1950, and transitioned to a jazz format in 1986. It has served as a platform for local artists and has been a source of entertainment for the Inland Northwest community. The university is citing the changing media landscape as the reason for the shutdown.
