Despite the prevalence of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in modern vehicles, traditional AM/FM radio remains the top choice for in-car audio. Edison Research analyzed their Share of Ear dataset and found that among those without CarPlay or Auto, 67% of in-car audio time is spent on AM/FM radio. For those with the systems, streaming takes up 18% of their daily in-car audio time, compared to 9% for those without. Additionally, listeners with CarPlay or Auto dedicate more time to podcasts (7% vs. 4%) but still allocate 46% of their in-car audio time to AM/FM.
