Artists to FCC: “Think of the creators.”

musicFirst and the Future of Music Coalition joined forces to file comments in the FCC’s biennial 2020 Communications Marketplace Report docket, urging the agency to factor in the interests of music creators when they conduct competitive analyses in the audio industry. In addition, the two groups want the Commission to redress the fact that broadcast radio pays no performance royalties. According to the letter, “The FCC’s inquiry is happening at a time when the plight of music creators and the contrast between big and small broadcasters could not be more stark. We urge the FCC to expose the radio’s competitive advantages and draft its report through the lens of what is best for music creators, audio listeners, and small broadcasters.”
