Yet another radio tradition down the tubes.

The NAB has announced that it is doing away with the Radio Luncheon, along with the Television Luncheon and the Technology Luncheon, at the 2018 NAB Show in Las Vegas. Instead, there will be an “NAB Achievement in Broadcasting Dinner,” an extra-charge event that will encompass the Hall of Fame awards for both radio and television, as well as the NAB Digital Leadership Award. Then, the following day, a free-for-all “NAB: We Are Broadcasters Celebration” will be held in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The celebration will include the NAB Crystal Radio Awards, the NAB Crystal Heritage Award, the Radio and Television Engineering Achievement Awards, and the Television Chairman’s Award. According to NAB Executive Vice President of Conventions and Business Operations Chris Brown, “These changes are an opportunity to better highlight key awards and expose them to a broader NAB Show audience. The new schedule also reflects NAB’s focus on keeping the show fresh and relevant while continuing to highlight the great work our industry does from a business, creative and community perspective.”
