wheeler-redskinsThe latest round of debate over whether the name “Redskins” should be jettisoned by the Washington football team involves a petition from one John Banzhaf III to have the use of the name on the air declared indecent—in other words, an offense punishable by the FCC. And Chairman Wheeler said today that the Commission is giving it serious consideration. Wheeler said, “We’ll be looking at that petition, we will be dealing with that issue on the merits and we’ll be responding accordingly. There are a lot of names and descriptions that were used over time that are inappropriate today. And I think the name that is attributed to the Washington football club is one of those.”
