Nielsen has studied its holiday ratings to come up with a list of the top-10 most played Christmas songs from November 5 through December 2. The results probably verify what you’ve been hearing yourself: the top five are Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”—a hit in 1962—followed by Burl Ives’s “A Holly Jolly Christmas” (1965); Andy Williams’s “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” (1963); Bobby Helms’s “Jingle Bell Rock” (1962); and José Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad” (1970). In fact, the entire top 10 contains nary a song more recent than 1995. In other news, Nielsen reports that Adult Contemporary stations that flipped to an All-Christmas Music format jumped a full share point in the ratings, with special strength in the 18-34 and 25-54 demographics.
