commissioners-2016The FCC officially released its ownership rules Second Report and Order, leaving largely unchanged the newspaper-broadcast and radio-television cross-ownership bans. The Local Radio Ownership Rule was also left alone; the Commission ignored non-broadcast audio sources in its analysis of our competition—especially noteworthy because Chairman Wheeler, coming from the broadband side, knows full well of the dramatic growth of Internet and satellite radio. (The Order says, “Neither of these sources is as universally and freely available as broadcast radio, and neither typically provides programming tailored to the needs and interests of specific local markets.”)
