shazam-pac-manShazam, the song-recognition system that most of us have used to identify songs we are not familiar with, is being used by record label executives as “an early-detection system for hits,” according to an article in this month’s The Atlantic. After all, Shazam is being used to conduct song searches 20 million times a day, so it is uniquely positioned to identify songs that are catching on – and where they are catching on. Accordingly, Shazam is moving forward with its plan to launch a new label under the Warner Music Group aegis for artists discovered by the service.
