RTDNA reveals First Amendment Defender Award recipient.

Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) will receive this year’s First Amendment Defender Award at an award ceremony in Washington next week organized by the Radio Television Digital News Foundation, an offspring of the Radio Television Digital News Association. Representative Swalwell introduced the Journalist Protection Act to make a federal crime any intentional bodily injury to a journalist. According to RTDNA/RTDNF Executive Director Dan Shelley, “In a climate where journalists have targets on their backs just for doing their jobs responsibly, representative Swalwell has taken a very public stand in support of press freedom. This award acknowledges his courage in standing up to hate and violence.”
