Larry Patrick–broker, group owner and all-around good guy–received the 2012 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville over the weekend. Mike Wirth, Dean of the College of Communication and Information, commented, “Larry Patrick has had a remarkable professional career, and he has given very generously of his time, talent and treasure to the College, the University and many other worthy causes. His leadership, commitment and dedication serve as an outstanding example of the positive impact one person can have. Larry’s passion for giving back and making a difference inspires our students, faculty, staff and alumni to strive for excellence in everything we do.”
This isn’t the first time Larry has been honored by his alma mater: in 1995, he received the College of Communication and Information Donald G Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award. Anyone who knows Larry recognizes the qualities for which he has been recognized numerous times within and without our industry.
Editor’s $0.02: Some weeks ago I did a Last Word in which I asked the question, “Where are the leaders in radio today?” In fact, some of our strongest leaders, like Larry, do so quietly and by example. Congratulations to Larry on a well-deserved award, and thanks to him for being such a shining example.
