On the chairman’s mind: broadcast ownership diversity.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is calling for an incubator program to fulfill the Commission’s intention to encourage broadcast ownership diversity, and has circulated a plan to accomplish this. The proposal will be voted on at the August Open Meeting, and will start with AM/FM radio station ownership. The plan is to pair well-established, experienced broadcasters with new or struggling operations, in which the established broadcasters would offer financial and operational support. The chairman commented, “The FCC is committed to taking action to promote diversity in the broadcast industry.”
