New multilingual EAS requirements adopted.

The FCC’s new requirements of State Emergency Alert System plans call for participants to furnish information to their State Emergency Communications Committees for compilation and delivery to the Commission. This is less than what was asked by a joint petition of the minority media and telecommunications Council, United Church of Christ, an independent Spanish broadcasters, who wanted to require that all presidential-level alerts be in both English and Spanish, designating a Spanish-language station for all alerts, and establishing primary multilingual ES stations in markets with a substantial percentage of the population speaking another language.
