Illinois Law Gives Broadcasters an Edge

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed into law the “First Informer Broadcasters Act,” giving broadcasters and cable systems credentials to make it easier to access their operations in case of emergency, and putting them first in line for getting fuel in such situations.

The Midwestern state joins Nevada in enacting such a measure. According to Illinois Broadcasters Association Pres./CEO Dennis Lyle, “This legislation assures our broadcasters can keep generators fueled and stations operational in times of disasters, allowing them to do what they do best—keeping the public informed.”
