FCC notice calls for physical license posting elimination.

At the May Open Meeting of the FCC, a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was released concerning the elimination of the rule requiring physical posting of licenses in specific locations within a radio station. At the meeting, Chairman Pai noted that the rule goes back to the beginning of the Federal Radio Commission nearly 90 years ago—but nobody knows why the rule was ever put into effect in the first place. Pai said, “Nonetheless, these roles were expanded in future years to apply to other services deployed by broadcasters. . . I’m skeptical that our license posting rules currently serve any useful purpose.”
