FCC chairman urged to lead FM chip activation movement.

keenan-kimThe Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council (MMTC) has sent a letter to FCC chairman Tom Wheeler asking to “champion” activating FM chips in smart phones. The letter, from MMTC President/CEO Kim Keenan, says, “We have made great strides but still have more work to do, and with your support and endorsement we could make radio a reality in all smart phones. You can help by encouraging all cellular carriers to turn on the FM chips in their phones.” The letter goes on to say that such an action “enhances the ability of broadcasters to distribute life-saving, emergency alert notifications before, during and after natural and man-made emergencies.”
