Emergency Alerts for the Rest of Us

People in radio tend to have pretty good hearing—that seems to be a job requirement—so we might overlook those who are less aurally-adept.

Not so NPR Labs, which has been awarded a contract by the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA for a pilot program of emergency alerts for the deaf or hard of hearing.

Twenty-five public radio stations in five Gulf Coast states will participate in the test.
