The United States Senate has unanimously passed the Reliable Emergency Alert Distribution Improvement Act, which name the Department of Acronyms came up with to justify calling it the READI Act. The legislation was introduced by Senators Brian Schatz (D-HI), John Thune (R-SD), and Roger Wicker (R-MS) to ensure more reliability in emergency alerts received on mobile phones, TVs, and radios. In addition, the measure authorizes the exploration of new ways of alerting the public using online video and audio streaming services, and ensures better coordination among states.
