The Canadian Radio-Television Commission has ordered all radio and television stations to participate in the Emergency Alert System. In the past, and until March 31, 2015, participation is and will be voluntary. As of that date, the only exceptions will be campus, community and Native stations, which have an additional year to comply. Commented CRTC Chairman Jean-Pierre Blais, “We are making sure that broadcasters and television service providers play their part in improving the security and safety of Canadians.”
