A photographer named John Curtis Rice has filed a copyright infringement suit against Cox Media Group and affiliated companies for using a copyrighted photo he had taken of Columbia University student Nayla Kidd on 47 radio and newspaper websites without permission. If the court rules in Rice’s favor, he stands to collect up to $150,000 per work plus $2500-$25,000 for each time the photo’s credit line was removed—that’s over $8 million, but who’s counting?
