Congress Grapples with FCC Sunshine Rules

There’s a rule in effect that prohibits more than two FCC commissioners from meeting outside of open meetings, and a quartet of federal legislators want to change all that with “The Federal Communications Commission Collaboration Act of 2013.” The measure is drawing support from the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, which issued a statement saying, “NARUC has endorsed this significant and much-needed improvement to the current process for years, and hopes it will become law as soon as possible.” FCC Commissioner Adjit Pai commented, “We at the FCC hear a common refrain: our processes need reform. We must be as nimble as the communications industry we oversee. The FCC Collaboration Act would help us do that by allowing greater interaction among the commissioners.”
