Commission denies license revocation over team name.

redskins-blockedThe FCC has denied activist John Banzhaf’s petition to deny the license of WWXX in Buckland, Virginia because of the repeated use of the term “Redskins” when talking about the Washington football team of that name. Banzhaf asserted that the word “Redskins” is obscene. (It’s no coincidence that Banzhaf targeted this particular radio station; it’s owned in part by Redskins General Manager Daniel Snyder.) The FCC’s ruling is based on a Supreme Court ruling which defines obscene material as something sexual in nature.
