Budget hearing uncovers cracks in FCC armor.

wheeler-paiThe FCC once again took center stage on the hill, appearing before the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government last Tuesday. The gloves were off as Commissioner Ajit Pai encouraged Congress to block funding for the implementation and enforcement of the Net Neutrality order. When finally the subject turned to the reason for the hearing—the budget—FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler asked for an increase of about 17%, commenting, “Few, if any, government agencies deliver a better return on investment than the FCC.” Commissioner Pai rejoined, “I have never been asked to participate in the development of the agency’s budget request. And, after reviewing this proposal, I am unable to support it.”
