Nielsen Music has released its Midyear 2016 Sales Report, showing that revenue in the United States for the first half of the year stood at $1.98 billion. That’s an 8.9% increase over the $1.2 billion in sales during the same period last year. The growth was driven almost entirely by streaming. On the other hand, album sales were down 13.6%, as were CD sales and even digital sales. The very tiny niche market of vinyl is actually up 11.4%. Digital downloads were 404.3 million, as opposed to 531.6 million last year.
