Hurricane Harvey is but the latest in an almost infinite series of unfortunate events in which radio has played a critical part. While cellular and landline communication was down throughout most of the affected area (and beyond). Causing great concern for the loved ones bold in Texas who could not be reached, good old reliable radio continued its tradition of extraordinary service. Emergency generators, dedicated professionals and enough coffee to power all the Starbuckses in the world enabled our medium to shine as only it can. And, as always, I’m not the only one to wonder why it takes a tragedy to remind people of the extraordinary power of our extraordinary medium.
