Another gem from the acronym factory.

The Pirate Illegal Radio Abuse through Enforcement Act—the “PIRATE Act”—was introduced in the House last week by Leonard Lance (R-NJ), vice chair of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, along with Representatives Paul Tonko (D-NY), Chris Collins (D-NY), and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL). The measure would increase fines for illegal radio operators from $10,000 to $100,000 and require “enforcement sweeps” at least every five years in the top five markets for pirate activity—New York, LA, Chicago, San Francisco, and Dallas.
